Hemp-blend Spinning FiberWhat is so great about hemp?
Hemp is a highly sustainable plant-based fiber. The hemp plant requires fewer resources and produces higher yields than cotton. In addition, hemp has so many uses that almost every part of the plant can be utilized for a different purpose, ranging from food to bio-fuel. As a spinning fiber, hemp is strong and becomes softer with use. Blended with other fibers, it is soft enough to wear against the skin. You probably are not going to make a pair of socks from hemp-blend yarn, as hemp does not have the crimp that gives wool its springiness. But from garments to housewares to accessories, there are so many things you CAN make from it, that hemp most certainly deserves a place in your stash! |
